A Steady Christian Walk, C.S.

I grew up in Canton, China. Shortly after I came to the United States, I was saved through God's mercy and began meeting with the church in Oakland.

At that time, I was reading The New Believer's Series by Watchman Nee. By my reading it, the Lord was able to turn many of my concepts around and answer many of my questions. Today, I still appreciate the foundation that was laid at that time. One of the chapters, “Joining a Church”, opened my eyes concerning the church. I was touched that the Lord wants an organic body to express Himself (Ephesians 1:22-23), not just millions of individual Christians. I learned to follow the Lamb through the flock. (John 10:16-17) The Christian life is not easy, but I learned to depend on brothers and sisters in Christ, not just the Lord Himself. Through caring and loving believers, the Lord was able to shepherd me and preserve me all these years.

As I went on in the Lord, like all Christians, I started to seek the Lord's will. I had a hard time because when I tried and tried, I felt in the situation described by Paul in Romans 7:21-24, “I find then the law with me who wills to do the good, that is, the evil is present with me. For I delight in the law of God according to the inner man, but I see a different law in my members, warring against the law of my mind and making me a captive to the law of sin which is in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from the body of this death?”

I knew Romans 8:2, but I didn't know how to experience it. I was very depressed. But praise the Lord, by reading some ministry books by Witness Lee, one in particular, The Spirit With Our Spirit, I saw the way to go on. I saw that God is Spirit, and we have a human spirit to worship and contact Him (John 3:6; 4:24; Romans 8:16). The reality of Christian life is altogether in the realm of the Spirit, not in the realm of mind. This seeing, or realization, was the turning point of my Christian life. I learned to set my mind on the spirit, which results in life and peace (Romans 8:6). I have such a clear sky between God and me. My Christian walk has become much more steady than it was before.
